Gas Piping Inspections

NYC Local Law 152 • Owner & manager guide

← Resource Center

Know your cycle, schedule the right professional, and track the filing—not just the inspection. Reviewed October 7, 2026.

Who should check coverage?

Most NYC buildings must comply with LL152. One- and two-family homes and buildings classified in occupancy group R-3 are exempt. Confirm the actual occupancy classification and community district for each property.

Which cycle applies?

2026 · Cycle C: Community districts 4, 6, 8, 9, and 16.

2027 · Cycle D: Community districts 11, 12, 14, 15, and 17.

The district numbers apply across all boroughs. Confirm approved extensions separately.

Your action checklist

1. Confirm coverage, district, current gas status, and prior filing records.

2. Engage a Licensed Master Plumber and arrange required access.

3. Track the inspection report and certification. The plumber provides the report to the owner within 30 days; the certification must reach DOB within 60 days of inspection.

4. Address unsafe conditions promptly. Track any required correction certification against its applicable deadline.

5. Keep inspection reports, correction documentation, and submission confirmations together.

What changed in 2026?

LL152 submissions moved to DOB NOW: Safety on July 27, 2026. Coordinate the filing and owner attestation with your inspection professional.

Current rules distinguish a building with no gas piping from one with piping but no active service. A no-gas-piping certification is required once; a no-active-service certification requires utility documentation each cycle. Do not assume that no gas use means no filing obligation.

Documents to organize

Property and occupancy details • Community district • Prior certifications • Inspection report • Correction records • Utility documentation where applicable • DOB submission confirmation.
